What is the main definition of fuse and mcb?

Fuse and circuit breakers are important parts of any electrical system. Fuse and circuit breakers are both used to interrupt excess electricity in a circuit.

One of the primary distinctions between a fuse and a circuit breaker is that a fuse is a metal piece that melts when there is an overload, whereas a circuit breaker has an internal switch that trips when there is an overload or short circuit in the circuit.


What is a Fuse ?

Fuse: A fuse is an electrical device with a low resistance conductor that melts when the current load is very high, causing the circuit to open and saving other equipment’s in a similar circuit.

A fuse operates on the thermal properties of materials that conduct electric currents. It is made up of a metal wire or conductor material that can carry a predetermined amount of current through it. When an excessive current flows through the fuse, the conducting material inside it melts, causing the current flow to be interrupted.

What is a miniature circuit breaker?

MCB is an abbreviation for Miniature Circuit Breaker. It is an electromechanical device that operates on both the electromagnetic and thermal properties of an electric current. 

A miniature device within the MCB enables it to immediately stop recent progression during short circuits, and a bimetallic line within it enables it to stop the flow during overabundances and overload.

Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) are electric equipment that conserve and protect electrical circuits from overload and over current. A short circuit or overload could be the cause of an overcurrent. Unlike a fuse, an MCB can be reused and does not need to be replaced every time a fault occurs.

  • MCBs are more sensitive than fuses and have a longer lifespan.
  • Because there are no replacing parts, MCBs are simple to restart after tripping.
  • It indicates the status of the circuit breaker. Circuit breakers are used as ON/OFF switches.
